Back to regular training again today and it feels great! This is the first time in a few weeks where I feel like my schedule has opened up and I have a little time to relax and just focus on my training. It is also the first time in a number of weeks where I feel like I have kicked the sickness and the hamstring has no problems.
Since it has been a week or so since I have sprinted, we decided to take it slow working into it. So today at the track I did hurdles with one of them in a total sprint. Jack (my coach) is learning to tell me to stop when something looks good, as there is no use in over training something that I know how to do well.
One hurdle sprint and then we went over to vault. "Only 5 jumps today" Jack said, so thats all we did. All were pretty good for not being on a pole in about 3 weeks, but there is still some kinks to workout. No video again today but I will get some more up soon for all of you that are interested.
I also thought I would upload the pictures of the Men's Health Magazine for those of you who didn't go and purchase. Here is what was inside:
As for my LA life, I drove down again yesterday for a "callback" for the Buick commercial where they needed a high jumper. Feeling confident after the first audition I went in thinking that I had a good chance of booking the gig. Little did I know that once I showed up 7 other professional high jumpers where there this time. As a decathlete its hard to compare yourself to someone who only high jumps for a living. Many of the high jumpers there had a personal best of over 7'6'' including a two time Olympian Jamie Nieto. It all depends on what the casting director wants for the commercial. They said that it didn't matter how good you were, but rather if you had the "look" they wanted. It should be airing this year and will have a high jumper, soccer player, basketball player, football player, and a swimmer.
They videoed me taking two jumps, asked me some questions on camera and then sent me on my way. I haven't heard anything today which probably means that I was not one of the men chosen. If thats the case then much like the decathlon I must let go and refocus my energy on the next challenge with complete desire to excel, and thats just what I am going to do. Stay tuned.
