Leaving for Jamaica on Wednesday to compete Friday Saturday. This past week has been more touch-up work than anything else to make sure that I am ready to compete for my third decathlon of the season.
I am super excited to travel to Jamaica and have high hopes on what the outcome of the meet will be. With what I have been able to accomplish in practices and in competitions over the past few weeks, I feel like I am ready to set a personal best in the decathlon. Hopefully the weather and the accommodations will provide a scenario for a big score.
This week we worked a lot on my high jumping as it has been touch and go since the first decathlon. The rhythm and the jump are looking much better than a few weeks ago. We did some springboard jumping that I thought you all might want to see. We do this for many reasons but one is to practice the "climb" during the jump, meaning the time spent during the vertical leap. Here is a couple attempts at 7'4 that I almost made:
Pretty close on all the jumps I had and I was able to get the feeling that I have been lacking during the competitions, and that is to just jump high!!
Hit a little shotput practice this week as well and continued to work on pushing the ball a little bit more. Here's a good one from practice:
Other than that I feel that I am ready to go. Did a little hurdles and javelin today and then tomorrow completely off, travel Wednesday, warm up and shake out Thursday, and then compete Friday Saturday, then back home Sunday night. I am told that this link should have results and photos if you have facebook but who knows. If not check either of these, link 1, or link 2, and click on NACAC Championships on the last one. For some reason they never do a good job of posting results during meets like this but hopefully there will be something up.
I'll do my best to try to update while I am down there but who knows if we will have Internet and what the time schedule might be. At any rate wish me luck and I will update for sure when I get back stateside! Thanks for all the support, you all rock!!!
