Cal Poly Invite

After a good week of hard training and lifting Jack and I decided to compete in the annual Cal Poly Invite, one of the only meets that is held in town that I can compete at. It was awesome to have so many friends at the track cheering me on as I competed.

The day turned out to be pretty cool weather, around 60 degrees, unfortunately as the previous two days saw temperatures in the upper 80's. Ashton Eaton, a fellow competitor and friend of mine was in town and we were competing in the same events to practice for our upcoming decathlons. Friday we threw discus and a very close competition where I edged out the win by a couple inches at 145'10, not too bad for the first time throwing this year.

Saturday we both competed in the javelin, shot put, and high jump. I edged out another win in the javelin at close to a personal best of 201 feet and felt like there was more in the tank. We moved on to shot put where Ashton excelled and chalked up a win. I however wasn't too disappointed with my throwing as I managed just under 46 feet. On to high jump where I struggled to make a good height, most likely fatigued from the hard week of training. But all in all a great meet and super fun to compete. It was also exciting to watch my training partners at Cal Poly compete for the home crowd.

With the Mt. Sac decathlon set in my sights on the 13th and 14th of April, this week should be a little easier on the body so I'm fresh and ready to go the next Wednesday. All I need to do is compete with the intensity that I have been and I will put up a big score. A little help from the weather would be nice to.

Check out my farthest javelin throw here. Not to bad as I rushed the "pull" of my left arm. Can't wait to throw again!
